about Kevin Baker

When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for; and let us think, as we lay stone on stone, that a time is to come when those stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, "See! This our father did for us." -John Ruskin

Kevin Baker has been working with stone since graduating from the University of Rhode Island thirty five years ago. He views stone masonry as an art and is committed to continuing the unique tradition and quality of New England stonework..

Kevin Baker specializes in dry laid stone work and is equally skilled in technical masonry. Kevin brings a small team of experienced stone workers to projects as simple as a stone wall or complex as a stone tunnel.

Kevin uses reclaimed materials and locally quarried or sourced stone where possible. He has cultivated relationships with several quarries and stone suppliers allowing him to provide unusual and unique stone. He also maintains a six acre stone yard with a twenty five year collection of unique and uncommon stone.

Kevin collaborates with architects, landscape architects, and designers, as well as occasionally working directly with individual clients. He focuses on educating clients in the art of using unusual materials creatively and effectively. Kevin has worked on installations for many notable national and local designers including Oehme van Sweden, Steven Stimpson Associates, Estes Twombly Architects, Hank Gilpin and Martha Moore Landscape Architect. He has also spoken at and conducted several workshops on traditional dry laid masonry throughout Southern New England and in California at the Annual Stone Foundation Symposium.
